June is Entrepreneurs “Do It Yourself” Marketing Month.
I believe in entrepreneurial skills and creative thinking when it comes to kids and money. I believe in fostering financial independence by helping and guiding kids to find kid-friendly, creative ways to make money.
Kids should be money savvy. Kids, with your guidance and help, can learn how to earn, invest, donate, save and spend money wisely.
There are lots of ways you can teach your kids how to get on, and stay on, the financial path to success.
We all want our kids to end up on a strong financial ground. That’s the only way they are going to move out and live on their own! ;o)
One year is made up of 12 months and 365 days. Yes, I know, leap year has 366 days. ;o)
There are lots of holidays to celebrate during a year. We have our national holidays and religious holidays. Did you know there are many other holidays that are celebrated not only monthly, but weekly and daily?
Some people call these holidays “zany.” Are there zany holidays that celebrate the power of money? Celebrate earning, investing, donating, saving and spending money wisely?
Wouldn’t that be fun to celebrate each month? I think so. ;o)
June is more well-known in the U.S. for the celebration of Father’s Day (the 3rd Sunday of the month). Did you know that June is also Entrepreneurs “Do It Yourself” Marketing Month? It is!
Entrepreneurs “Do It Yourself” Marketing Month calls attention to small business owners who do their own marketing every day to help their companies succeed. It calls for practicing and improving word of mouth and personal networking skills. It calls to take active steps to build and strengthen business relationships and impress others with business savvy.
It not only calls to adults. It calls to kids too. It calls to young entrepreneurs who want to grow their own business.
Can kids learn to market? What can kids do? It’s really not hard. Honestly! ;o)
With the economy the way it is, low-cost and high return marketing tactics that don’t take up a lot of time work. Let your kids choose one or two (or more) tactics that target their market and stick with it.
Here are a few tactics you can tell your kids about:
Timing! Reach out to neighbors and friends BEFORE they need what you are selling/offering. (Discuss and arrange for summer work in the spring; fall work in the summer; winter work in the fall and summer work in the spring.)
Persistence! The relationship you establish with your neighbors and friends is the thing! The more intimacy you create with your potential customer, the better. (Remind your neighbors and friends again and again of the service or product you are offering. Don’t be shy!)
Advertise! Let your kids create colourful ads for the service or product being offered. (Post and distribute these ads around the neighborhood. Replace old ads with new ones.)
People Skills! Don’t be a smart aleck. Be courteous and polite. (Say “hello” to your neighbors and friends. Give them your full attention and listen carefully to what they are saying.)
Trust Yourself! Trust your own creativity and personality to grow your business. (Encourage your kids to believe in themselves! Nurture your kids’ budding talents and passions.)
The musical “Carousel” has a wonderful song in it written by Rodgers and Hammerstein entitled “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over.” Let June bust out all over your kids with the celebration of Entrepreneurs “Do It Yourself” Marketing!
Here’s to empowering our kid entrepreneurs! ;o)
Cheers … Amanda van der Gulik … Excited Life Enthusiast! ;o)
