Young Entrepreneurs, Xanthe & Quinn, Help Kids Coping With The Loss Of A Beloved Pet With Their “Remembering Candy” Book

Interview With Mindmovies Founder, Natalie Ledwell & CleverDough Kids Founder, Amanda van der Gulik

My Kids were interviewed on “The Inspiration Show”!!!

Did you know that my Law of Attraction Kids, Xanthe & Quinn, were featured on Mindmovies “The Inspiration Show” for their Book on Coping With The Loss of a Pet, Remembering Candy with Natalie Ledwell & Amanda van der Gulik from Cleverdough Kids!

So so proud of them! For years I’ve been teaching my children about money with a particular focus on creating passive recurring income from doing something they already love or have a natural passion for.

So you can just imagine how proud I was of my daughter a few years ago when our sweet doggie, Candy, passed away and my daughter came to me with a lovely idea of how we could use our own grieving process and help other kids.

Before our sweet Candy had passed away we were all saving up for a family goal, to buy a Nintendo Wii gaming station. We had our “Family Goal” Jar on our fireplace mantel and everytime we earned money, we each put a small amount of our money into our jar to save up for our special family goal.

Since we had been spending a lot of time in the months previously with our goal of earning money to save up for that Wii station, our kiddos had gotten into the habit of finding ways to earn money by helping others.

We were traveling in Canada at the time and had left our sweet doggie with our best friends back in New Zealand while we were away. One morning we got a call that made our hearts sink forever. Our dear friends had had to have our dog put down because she wasn’t feeling well and the vet had found that she was suffering from some internal complications and there wasn’t anything that could be done for her. It had come on really quickly and they had no choice but to put her out of her misery.

We were devastated! We had lost our sweet Candy, and would never see her again or ever get a chance to say goodbye. Xanthe and Quinn were still very young and were naturally overcome with grief.

To honour our sweet Candy, we spend a full day celebrating her life. We went from crying in each others arms to talking about all the things we loved about Candy. We remembered all the good times we had had and started to laugh through our tears as we remembered all the silly things she used to do.

Since we weren’t able to fly back to New Zealand at that time to give her a proper funeral, our friends buried her and we honoured her with a special day of celebration to remember her wonderful life with us.

We baked cupcakes and then sang “We love you Candy” to the tune of “Happy Birthday”. (Which is surprisingly harder to do than you would think!)

We made a little memory photo book of Candy with all the photos of her that we could find so we could flip through it everyday to remember her and keep her close in our hearts.

That night, Xanthe and Quinn, put Quinn’s special blankie on the floor between their beds and asked Candy’s soul to sleep near them always.

Quinn’s Baby Blankie – I made this cake for his 1st birthday, he loved his blankie so much!

About a week later, when my sweet little girl, Xanthe, came to me and was trying to think up another way to make money for our goal of getting the family Wii goal. She loved to draw and so was thinking of maybe making a book for kids. Maybe a story book.

I was teaching her about how if you want to earn money, the best way is to help others. So when she mentioned the book, I was telling her how if you made a ‘how to’ book or a story book that somehow helped others, that would work better and she would not only come up with a fun ways to make money but would also be helping our world be a better place by helping others.

She is always amazing me with her kind heart, so I was just so proud of her when she looked up at me and said, “Mommy! What if I made a book to help other kids cope with losing their doggies too?”

“That’s a wonderful idea sweetheart!” I told her feeling so proud of her.

“And I could tell them about our celebrating Candy day that we did! Maybe they could do that for their dogs too! Or cats! Or whatever pet they have! Right Mommy?”

“Oh sweetie, that is such a lovely idea! I’m so proud of you. You can do all the drawings too. You are such a good artist.” I encouraged her.

“Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! I know!!! We can tell the story together and we can all do the drawings! You, Daddy, Quinn and me! Then we can put the money from the book in our family “Goal” jar and can we use some of it to give to maybe an animal shelter?” She asked, eyes huge with all her ideas!

How could I say no to that?

And that’s exactly what we did. We sat down as a family and wrote our our story, and took turns drawing the illustrations for their book.

We managed to save up enough and got to buy our family goal. We had so much fun playing on the Wii, but the best thing of all, was knowing how many families my daughter’s book is still helping, even now … many years later!

So I’m sure you can just imagine how honoured and excited we were when our dear friend, Natalie Ledwell, from Mindmovies, called us and asked if she could interview Xanthe and Quinn for her “The Inspiration Show” to be a role model for other kid enterepreneurs and show how to use The Law of Attraction to make your dreams come true while helping others at the same time.

We said, “YES PLEASE!!!” 😀

Show this interview with your child and then ask your child, what way could they help others and earn money for their own dreams at the same time?

Tell me what ideas they come up with in the comments below. Also, I would love to know, what is your BIGGEST challenge when it comes to teaching your child about money? Tell me in the comments below.

Did you enjoy this article? If so, can you do me a HUGE favour and help me empower more families, just like yours, by sharing this post with your friends and family? Thank-you.

“Inspirational Kids Xanthe (age 10) and Quinn (age 9) from Canada have actually written a book after their beloved dog Candy after she died while they were away from home. They wanted to remember their dog with laughter instead of tears, which was the inspiration for their book. This episode is so touching and just too cute to miss!”
